The Lewis and Clark Region of the Troops to Teachers program is a federal program administered by the Department of Defense. The purpose of the program is to recruit K-12 teachers for public schools within the seven (7) state region (ID, MT, MN, ND, SD, WI, WY).
Teachers are recruited from the pool of military personnel who are active duty, reserve duty, retired or medically discharged. The program provides advice, academic counseling, financial and placement assistance to eligible candidates in order to assist them in the transition from military service to the profession of education.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The State Representative will conduct activities in support of the Troops to Teachers program throughout the state of Wisconsin.
Duties include developing and maintaining relationships with agencies in both the education and military communities.
The State Representative is responsible for marketing and outreach and will conduct informal visits with key partners as well as teaching as a second career seminars, open office hours, reintegration (Yellow Ribbon) events, job fairs, and teacher recruiting fairs. The State Representative will communicate with the state departments of education, school districts, school teachers, education associations and related agencies.
The State Representative will advise prospects and clients in coordination with the region office in regards to academic qualifications, teacher licensure requirements, teacher preparation programs, and employment as a teacher.
Duties will require travel within Wisconsin with limited overnight stays. The primary task, in coordination with the region office, is to assist military personnel in transitioning into the teaching profession.
Education, training, experience:
General knowledge of the organization, structure and locations of military activities in Wisconsin.
General knowledge of the education career track from baccalaureate degree to teaching license/certificate.
Demonstrated successful experience engaging with and communicating with individuals, small and large groups of people.
Demonstrated experience effectively managing and prioritizing tasks and time in support of the organizational mission.
Experience teaching in or administration of public schools in Wisconsin.
Military experience in Wisconsin.
Bachelor’s degree in education.
The Successful Candidate Will Possess excellent human relation skills, the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others, demonstrate evidence of good judgment, flexibility and innovativeness to respond to the changing needs of the clientele, and ability to communicate effectively verbally to individuals or groups, and in writing. The successful candidate will have a familiarity with the military and with advising educator candidates, be able to perform detailed work with accuracy, work with minimal supervision, and have strong leadership and organizational skills. This candidate will be committed to the profession of education and the support of military families.
Additional Requirements: Ability to travel throughout the state of Wisconsin.
In accordance with MSU policy, hiring will be conditional upon successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
